About

A consultancy organized around the work.

Arbano Group was founded on a specific argument about how senior advice ought to be delivered in New York, and how it ought to be priced.

Founding partners
Origin

The argument the firm was founded on.

Arbano Group began as a conversation among a small number of partners who had spent their careers inside the largest names in strategy and transaction advisory. They shared a view of what the client experience had become at scale, and a view of what it could look like at a different one. Arbano Group was the answer they wrote to that question.

The Trade

The trade Arbano Group makes.

An Arbano Group partnership carries fewer clients than an equivalent partnership elsewhere. Its associates work in small teams. Its engagements are sized to the number a partner can personally lead in a year. The consequence is a client roster that renews across cycles and a bench that stays long enough to know a live problem when it sees one.

Today

Where Arbano Group sits today.

Arbano Group advises corporates, private capital sponsors, and public institutions from a single New York office. The firm holds its scale deliberately, and the roster is sized to the partners on it.

How We Work

Four working habits

  1. Partners on the pen.

Every engagement is led by a partner who writes the recommendation. Associates sharpen the analysis and pressure-test the argument. The client hears the answer from the person who reached it.

  2. Small teams.

An engagement is typically staffed with three to five people. Associates stay with Arbano Group long enough to become useful – long enough, in other words, to be worth what a client pays for one.

  3. Written first.

Arbano Group delivers its answer as a memo before it delivers it as a deck. A memo forces the recommendation to survive as prose, which is how it will be read by the people who have to execute it. The deck comes after, and supports the memo it was written to accompany.

  4. A selective roster.

Arbano Group carries a limited number of engagements each year. That number is set by the partners' capacity to lead them personally, and the firm's economics follow from it.

Standards

Arbano Group operates one office and one partnership. Partners are compensated on the durability of their client relationships. Associates are promoted on the strength of their writing and their judgment.

Arbano Group is privately held by its partners. It has taken no outside capital and intends to keep it that way.
